*DISCLAIMER: Before using any of these recipes, remedies or rituals, its important to check for allergies, triggers and/or any other potential harmful reactions. Be sure to consult a medical professional, Spirit guide or someone whose wisdom you trust immediately if you are unsure of any possible reactions.

*DISCLAIMER 2: I’m trying to cultivate a habit of NOT referring to plants as “it”. I personally feel that “IT” implies that plants are objects. THEY ARE NOT!!! Plants are powerful living beings that are an integral part of our community. To honor their lives and the power which they share with us, I  try my best to refrain from calling plants “IT”. Rather I say/write their names repeatedly. I know I will fuck up sometimes. Feel free to hold me accountable please!!! This is all part of a practice of deepening my relationship and reverence to ALL living beings. Thank you!!!

Autumn Equinox Recipes, Remedies and Rituals

Autumn Equinox Recipes, Remedies and Rituals Autumn Equinox Recipes, Remedies and Rituals Autumn Equinox Recipes, Remedies and Rituals

The arrival of the Autumn Equinox on Saturday, September 22nd, opens up a new season in our lives and within the Earth. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Equinox welcomes the newness of Autumn and the birth of Libra season. We witness the continued beautiful metamorphosis of nature shedding its summer layers and walking into its Fall. Our ancestors used this time to give thanks for the abundance from the year and gather the resources they needed to prepare for the darker and colder months This shedding process we witness in nature is a powerful keynote for us to listen to. A call to action to bring more awareness into the different layers of our lives and our communities. What will we choose to sustain? What will we choose to shed?

Radical Self-Care and Community-Care Zine Resources

“It took me another couple of years to really begin to master [self-care], to do something as simple as take Sundays (or a weekend) off and here’s the kicker— not feel guilty about it. Where does that guilt come from? I suspect it’s old, old colonial shit. Really, I hate to be crass, but it’s true. If we think about the fact that colonization enslaved our peoples of color for centuries, and required that we work non-stop or be killed. It messed with our sense of balance. So that work ethic we’re proud of and that Corporate America loves us for. well, the irony is that if it goes unchecked and unbalanced it does what our ancestors were trying to avoid back in their enslaved days — it kills us.

My ancestors did not die and survive for me to make myself sick or kill myself in this system of corporate greed. This is how I stopped feeling guilty. I walk my path as whole and healthy as possible because I answer to those who sacrificed for me to exist. I want to model health for those younger folks and children I love. People who love you will ask you to stop and slow down, because they want to see you healthy. All of us have worked with unhealthy people, and in the end, it does more damage than good.”

D is for Death: Recipes, Remedies, Rituals and Resources for Dealing with Death

Welcome to the Alphabet series! Where we tackle a letter of the alphabet and connect that letter with a physical, emotional and/or spiritual ailment that impacts us individually and as a community. We gather as many recipes, rituals, remedies and resources as we can to support the healing of these ailments.  This is not by any means a comprehensive list, but a working list of possible things that can reinforce and engage healing. Please be sure to consult your doctor/practitioner/spiritual guide/intuition before using any of these therapies. We are all different and respond uniquely to various healing methods. Its important to only use what is meant for you specifically.  We started of the series with A is for Anger, followed by B is for Burnout and C is for Conflict.  Lets continue with the letter D.

“Your life is a sacred journey. And it is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path…exactly where you are meant to be right now…And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love”

“Share Your Bliss” Tour Interview #1 with Kunle

“Share Your Bliss” Tour Interview #1 with Kunle “Share Your Bliss” Tour Interview #1 with Kunle

Sharing is one of the most potent sources of healing within our community. We grow from that which is generously shared..given..taught to us. The “Share Your Bliss” Tour honors the power of sharing and creates spaces where folks can share that which has helped them grow, deepened their love, expanded their imagination, reconnected with their exuberance, shaken their reality, and awoken insatiable laughter deep in the belly of their soul.

The interviews also serve as a reflection tool for storytellers to reconnect and rediscover their connection to bliss. Join us as we walk with people through their journeys around self care and listen as they generously share recipes, remedies, rituals and resources around healing.

SouLar Bliss “Share Your Bliss” Tour kicked off in Lagos, Nigeria. I was honored to start the Nigeria tour sitting in circle with Kunle, my fellow Nigerian brother. As a gay identifying Nigerian man still in the closet, our conversation was an affirmation of his sacredness and the many ways he is moving towards reclaiming his bliss. I was deeply moved by how the both of us, two queer Nigerians, were able to bear witness to each other’s reflections, in a country that refuses to claim us. Our sharing was our own revolutionary act.

Thank You Love Letter to My Community

Dearest Community,

I find you Divine and so sacred to my existence.  Your love is a dynamic phenomenon, beautiful in its expression, true in its dance. Thank you for allowing your love to resonate through you towards me and out to the rest of the world. I’m inspired by your openeness and your recognition of our connectedness. I’m floored by how you challenge our society’s patriarchal beliefs of isolation and disconnection. Everytime you chose to reach outside of yourself with a kind word, a hug, a prayer, a dollar, a song, a question about my journey home, an affirmation, a shout out, a shoulder, a meditation, a gift, you freely and generously gave of yourself.  You recognize the love that exists within you and choose to share it time and time again.
